SantaFe Waystation Food Pantry
Jan 2020-Dec 2021
The SantaFe Waystation is a food pantry serving the Kansas City Metropolitan area. Here I worked with the staff to distribute food to upwards of 200 clients every Monday. I allocated donations based on Commodities/TFAP vs. donations and distributed them based on the clients reimbursement status. Before changes in protocol due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I guided clients through the selections and helped to familiarize them with products and give them help in making informed food choices. I was able to offer cooking methods and suggestions of preparation.
I worked together with my supervisors and fellow volunteers to adjust to changes caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, and this was a valuable lesson. It taught me how to be flexible and think outside the box so that I could provide important nourishment to the clients.
